Lorde releases new single and covers The Replacements.
Already a pop star in her homeland of New Zealand with the infectious pop single “Royals” off debut EP The Love Club, Ella Yelich – O’Connor (aka Lorde) is no Selena Gomez/Miley Cyrus wanna-be. The budding starlet’s whip-smart lyrics, multi-layered vocals and addictive melodies have the likes of Grimes raving about singer’s pop chops.
“Tennis Court,” the latest single, with its pulsing beatscape finds the fresh faced Lorde singing; “Baby, be the class clown, I’ll be the beauty queen in tears” a clear wink to her age (16 years old), yet unlike a Taylor Swift melodrama, Lorde has her tongue firmly planted in her cheek. In addition to the release of “Tennis Court” is a cover of The Replacement’s “Swingin’ Party,” both can be found on the upcoming Tennis Court EP (out June 10th). Check out the singles below.
